Long Beach Beekeepers
Hello! We continue the work with the Italian bees at the Sanctuary. On August 6, Bill Lewis and students noticed that mite levels were moving up. Two of the three colonies were still looking really good, and there was very little drone brood to remove. The third colony was struggling, though Bill had already tried adding a nucleus colony to supplement them. A few days later, he gave this colony a few frames of brood and bees from one of the healthy hives, and also shuffled their location, so the healthy foragers would come "home" that day to the hive that needs a boost.
We'd like to invite you to join us at the next inspection, which will take place at the Bee Sanctuary on Saturday, September 3, from 8-10am. Reserve your spot ASAP by registering now. Once we reach full capacity you will be able to join the wait list, which will give you priority registration for the following event. If possible, we will record each event so we can all follow the progress of our Italian bees, from the comfort of our homes.
This event is free of charge. Registration is required and available to club members.
