Let's take a moment to remember Gabriel Salinas.
I was the instructor for the in-person section of the course when Gabe took the club's Bee Prepared class. To his credit, Gabe sought out many other sources to further his beekeeping education - online, books, other beekeepers as well as trial and error. I was thrilled when he accepted my invitation to co-teach Bee Prepared with me. His easy going attitude was perfect for putting aspiring beekeepers and bees alike at ease. I loved his ingenuity, including the caddy he created for his beekeeping gear - so clever! - and was lucky to win an early prototype at an opportunity drawing.
In addition to being a good beekeeper, Gabe was a great human. He took his job as sanctuary manager seriously but put his daughters first. He was the type of person who pitched in without being asked and made sure his girls helped, too. He led by example. He never needed fanfare. He was fun to be around. I miss him.
